The play chronicles the life of noted psychologist Dr. Ruth Westheimer, from her early years fleeing Nazi Germany, living as an orphan in Switzerland, to her service in the Israeli armed forces as sharpshooter, and her later life and career in New York. Tony and Emmy Award-nominee Tovah Feldshuh stars in this illuminating one-woman show, written by renowned playwright, Mark St. Germain. Becoming Dr. Ruth is a humorous and heartfelt portrait detailing Dr. Ruth's remarkable journey against so many odds, to become a pioneer in the psychology of human sexuality and the world's most famous sex therapist. This production has a runtime of 90 minutes with no intermission and will be performed for a social-distanced audience indoors on Bay Street's Mainstage in compliance with all New York State requirements for indoor performances.

Becoming Dr. Ruth is produced in association with North Coast Repertory Theatre in Solana Beach, California, with David Ellenstein, Artistic Director, and Bill Kerlin, Managing Director.

During her prolific career, which spanned nearly four decades, playwright Wendy Wasserstein wrote eleven plays, winning a Tony Award, a Pulitzer Prize, a New York Drama Critics Circle Award, a Drama Desk Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Award. She was also a member of Guild Hall's Academy of the Arts, where she accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.

Her stunning accomplishments include such monumental works as The Heidi Chronicles, The Sisters Rosensweig and An American Daughter; along with a robust assortment of shorter, lesser known plays that all manage to capture her uniquely warm, irreverent and very human voice.

We are delighted to present this mini-fest of Wendy's plays – two separate, distinctive evenings filled with smart and shining treats from the voice of one of America's most beloved playwrights, and a great friend and neighbor to Guild Hall.

June 4th will feature an evening of 6 short plays with music – Bette and Me, Tender Offer, Workout, Medea, Boy Meets Girl, and The Man in a Case. June 5th will feature a staged reading of The Heidi Chronicles, with a talkback led by Erika Rundle.

Join us for an exciting afternoon of creative and inventive container gardens in our biennial Planters ON+OFF The Ground X competition. Enjoy the spectacular display of planters created by artists, designers, landscapers and gardeners. Judges Tony Igrao and Randy Kemper of Ingrao, Inc will preside over the competition as judges and will declare the winners at 6pm. Find your favorite and cast your vote for the People's Choice Award!

Brooklyn-based guitar-iconoclast KAKI KING will be performing in select cities around the northeast in the summer of 2021, in her first live-audiences shows since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Bringing along a few of her finest instruments, Kaki King will play a selection of songs from her 20-plus year career as well as new material from her most recent album, Modern Yesterdays (released on Cantaloupe Music).

Also performing at 9pm.

Jack, Larger than Life, is an intimate portrait of creator-collector Jack Lenor Larsen (1927-2020). His innovative textiles are presented side by side with his various "enthusiasms," the objects of craft and art he assiduously gathered, as well as the clothing he collected and wore. Over 100 objects from the several thousand in LongHouse Reserve's collection are juxtaposed with Jack's pronouncements and videotapes of his interviews.

Nearly fifty iconic Larsen textile lengths fill the gallery with color, texture and pattern, including major commissions such as Leverlin for Lever House, New York's first International Style high rise, Swazi Drapery for the Wolf Trap Theater; and Magnum, with light-reflecting mirror Mylar, for the Phoenix Opera House.
